A message from our
It is my pleasure to serve
as president of the Anniston Civitan club for the year 2016 – 2017. This
is my 16th year as a Civitan, and the 95th year of the existence of the
Anniston Civitan club. Civitan was founded in 1917 by a group of professionals
in Birmingham, Alabama who wanted to make a real difference in their community.
They formed a volunteer service club, known as “Civitan.” Since that day
in 1917, Civitan has grown to a membership in 47 countries, making a monumental
impact on the world. For the next year, Civitans around the globe will
be celebrating our Centennial Anniversary, which will culminate in the
summer of 2017 with the Centennial Convention in Birmingham, Alabama! (Please
check our website at Civitan.org.)
Our club is dedicated
to service to the community with special emphasis on assistance to citizens
with developmental disabilities. Our projects include service at the Anniston
Soup Kitchen, the Annual Luminary service at Forestlawn Gardens, and sponsorship
of activities for the Arc of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties. Our fundraising
efforts benefit local nonprofit organizations including the Salvation Army,
The Cerebral Palsy Center, The Arc and others.
We meet most Mondays at noon
at Classic on Noble in Anniston. Our meetings include good fellowship,
good food, and an interesting program.
If you are interested in
being a part of our club, or for additional information please visit one
of our meetings, or give us a call at 256 – 499 – 2281.
